Greek Prime Minister Mitsotakis to unveil > €1 trillion budget package

The Greek government is preparing a fiscal package for the September budget (ΔΕΘ) that is expected to exceed €1 trillion, with some estimates ranging between €1.2 trillion and €1.3 trillion. Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis will review the proposals after August 20, aiming to allocate funds between tax relief for businesses and households while staying within the 2027 fiscal path already agreed with the European Commission.

Key measures under discussion include reducing advance tax payments, adjusting the minimum taxable income for freelancers, reforming professional fees for legal entities, and possible changes to corporate profit taxes. The package also intends to complete the removal of the personal pension offset and fully exempt primary residences in roughly 13,000 small municipalities from ENFIA. The government has ruled out large‑scale spending such as reinstating a 13th public‑sector salary, citing fiscal constraints.

The overall approach stresses a balanced allocation of resources without creating a dramatic widening of the fiscal space, despite the package’s size and the heightened pre‑election political context.
