Greek railway stations to drive investment through 2027
Kostas Kyranakis, Secretary of the New Democracy party, has outlined a new era for the utilization of Greek railway real estate. Speaking at an event for GAIOSE S.A., which rebranded itself as ‘Hellenic Rail Estate’ during the 90th Thessaloniki International Fair, Kyranakis emphasized that railway stations are poised to become significant landmarks.
The strategy focuses on major hubs including Athens, Thessaloniki, and Piraeus. Kyranakis noted that the introduction of a new fleet of trains starting in 2027, combined with increased passenger traffic and enhanced safety systems, will create a demand for more usable and developmental space within stations. This shift is expected to open new avenues for commercial activities and large-scale investments, aiming to transform Greek stations into landmarks similar to those found in major European capitals.
