Following a donation agreement between Hellenic Train and METLEN, works will focus on upgrading passenger service areas, including the central hall, ticket offices, and lighting. The project also prioritizes accessibility through the installation of a lift for persons with disabilities and the renovation of sanitary facilities. Construction for the station renovation is scheduled to begin on September 10, 2026, with completion expected by January 25, 2027. Looking toward broader strategic shifts, Kostas Kyranakis, Secretary of the New Democracy party, highlighted a new approach to utilizing Greek railway real estate. During the 90th Thessaloniki International Fair, GAIOSE S.A. rebranded as ‘Hellenic Rail Estate’. Kyranakis emphasized that major hubs like Thessaloniki, Athens, and Piraeus are poised to become significant landmarks.
