Greek regional leaders seek agricultural aid and infrastructure projects
Regional leaders from Thessaly and Central Greece have met with the Ministry of Rural Development and Food to request urgent support for the agricultural sector. In Thessaly, Vice Governor Dimitris Tsetsilas called for special considerations within new Improvement Plans to assist farmers and livestock breeders affected by recent natural disasters and economic crises. Key requests include prioritized funding for recovering infrastructure, support for agricultural cooperatives, and reduced bureaucracy to ensure the viability of local farms.
In Central Greece, Governor Fanis Spanos and Vice Governor Konstantinos Apostolopoulos presented a memorandum to Minister Margaritis Schoinas focusing on critical infrastructure and policy needs. Proposed projects include modernizing the Kopais irrigation networks with twin water transport pipes, constructing the Psachni dam to boost production and mitigate flooding in Messapia, and developing underground irrigation in Lianokladio.
Additional requests involve accelerating aid for producers affected by fires in Boeotia, providing emergency funding for livestock feed, and ensuring compensation for farmers affected by wild boar damage. The Ministry expressed a positive disposition toward these demands, agreeing to close cooperation on major irrigation projects currently under evaluation.
