Greek regulator EFET recalls hummus products over salmonella risk

The Hellenic Food Authority (EFET) has ordered an immediate recall of ready‑made hummus products after laboratory tests revealed Salmonella spp. in the tahini used as a key ingredient. The contamination was identified by the producer, Ambrosia A.E., during its routine internal controls. Affected batches include the company’s own "ΧΟΥΜΟΥΣ" brand as well as several private‑label versions sold by major supermarket chains (e.g., "ΜΙΚΡΕΣ ΦΑΡΜΕΣ ΤΟΥ ΒΟΥΝΟΥ", "ΧΟΥΜΟΥΣ ΕΚΛΕΚΤΟ ΜΑΚΕΔΟΝΙΑΣ"). EFET’s Central Macedonia regional office confirmed the issue and urged consumers who have purchased the listed products not to consume them. Ambrosia has begun withdrawing the specific lots from store shelves and is cooperating with the regulator to complete the recall.
