Greek regulators call for responsible advertising to students during exam period
The Panhellenic university entrance exams in Greece create high stress for students and families. Authorities have observed an increase in commercial advertising that seeks to exploit this anxiety by promoting health‑related products such as herbal supplements, vitamins and energy drinks, promising improved concentration, memory, reduced stress and better exam performance.
The Council for Control of Communication (SEE) and the Association of Over‑the‑Counter Drug Companies (EFEX) are tasked with enforcing the Greek Advertising Code and European health‑claim regulations. They require that any health claim be scientifically substantiated and authorised, that advertisements avoid misleading language, false authority, fear‑mongering or exaggerated promises, and that digital and influencer content be clearly disclosed as advertising (#ad). The bodies stress the need for transparent, ethical communication to protect young consumers during this vulnerable period.
