Greek Institute of Road Safety rolls out summer campaigns for tourists

The Institute of Road Safety (Ι. Ο. ΑΣ.) "Panos Mylonas" partnered with Athens International Airport and the Ministry of Tourism to continue its long‑running summer road‑safety campaign “Enjoy visiting Greece – Stay safe on the road,” which has been displayed at the airport each August since 2013. The 2025 summer statistics released by ELSTAT showed 185 road‑traffic deaths, 192 serious injuries and 3,706 light injuries in Greece.

A new outdoor digital campaign titled “Holidays from holidays” will be launched in August 2026 under the aegis of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport, using POLITIS GROUP’s digital screens and the Institute’s social‑media channels. The Institute’s work was recognised by the European Commission, which invited it to present the initiative at the European Road Safety Charter awards in Brussels in 2022.

Separately, the Road Service Systems Oversight and Safety (ΟΔ. Υ. Σ. Ε. ΑΣ.) started an information drive for tourists, releasing a multilingual web‑app and QR‑code kiosks covering 99 % of vehicle‑rental outlets nationwide, and a 45‑second video “Θα Ζήσω” to promote safe driving. Deputy Minister of Infrastructure and Transport Giorgos Kotseras said Greece recorded the second‑best EU performance in reducing fatal road deaths in 2025.
