Greek Schools Face Kindergarten Facility Shortage and New Enrollment Rules
Union leader Tasos Stavroyannopoulos highlighted the chronic housing problem of Patras kindergartens, describing numerous schools on streets such as Panachaikou, Vasileiadou and Miltiadou as inadequate, lacking courtyards and safe facilities. He warned that the poor conditions affect early‑age education quality and called the issue a priority for collective action.
The Ministry of Education issued a circular for the 2025‑26 school year directing that first‑grade registrations be submitted online via the platform “Enrollment in the First Grade” between 6 and 26 March 2025. Parents must submit electronic applications, and schools will allocate places based on residence. The notice also outlines capacity limits, procedures for excess applications, and the need for updated address information at the children's kindergarten.
