Greek schools schedule start and opening ceremony for 2026‑27 academic year

The Greek Ministry of Education has issued a circular confirming that the new academic year 2026‑2027 will open on Friday 11 September 2026, with the traditional school‑opening ceremony (αγιασμός) to be held that same day in both primary and secondary schools. Preparatory activities are to begin on 1 September, and teachers’ unions are instructed to complete all organizational steps to ensure schools operate smoothly.

Local schools, such as the 1st Primary School of Mandras, have communicated detailed timetables to parents, including dates for the opening ceremony, adjusted dismissal times for various grades, and upcoming school events. The ministry also highlighted a focus on improving digital skills, upgrading facilities and rolling out new educational initiatives for the upcoming year.
