Greek shipping firms extend charter and order new tankers

Performance Shipping Inc., listed on Nasdaq, announced a two‑year extension of the charter for its Aframax tanker Blue Moon with American Eagle Tankers (AET). The daily rate will be $43,000 in the first year and $38,000 in the second, averaging $40,500 per day, roughly $29 million in gross revenue over the period. CEO Andreas Michalopoulos said, “The extension underscores the value of long‑term commercial partnerships and the confidence our counterparties have in our operational performance.”

Andriaki Shipping, a member of the NJ Goulandris Maritime group, confirmed orders for two new LR1 product carriers of 73,500 dwt from China’s New Times Shipbuilding, each costing about $55.1 million and slated for delivery in 2030. The vessels will be equipped with scrubbers and reflect a shift toward Chinese shipyards for Greek owners.

Both moves illustrate ongoing fleet investments by Greek shipping companies amid favorable market conditions.
