Massive Summer Ferry Departures from Piraeus and Rafina Ports

Greek ferry operators are experiencing a peak in holiday traffic as the final wave of July licences departs from the main Attica ports. On Friday 24 July, 113 sailings from Piraeus, Rafina, Lavrio and the Argossaronic terminals carried 50 917 passengers, 4 054 private vehicles, 706 trucks and 720 two‑wheelers. Vessel occupancy reached 98‑100 % on routes to the Cyclades, the Aegean and the Argossaronic islands.

The Maritime Authority projects another 36 904 passengers will leave on Saturday 25 July and 25 361 on Sunday 26 July, with 22‑24 scheduled sailings from Piraeus and similar frequencies from Rafina and Lavrio. Officials urge travelers to arrive early at the terminals to avoid delays. In a related statement, Transport Minister Basilis Kiklias noted that intense competition among ferry companies has driven ticket prices down by up to 50 %, while safety standards remain unchanged.
