Greek Shipping Minister Vasilis Kikilias says election outcome will hinge on government work, not new parties

Shipping and Island Policy Minister Vasilis Kikilias told Open TV that the New Democracy government's investments, reforms and fiscal cuts made during the pandemic, war, and energy crises must be continued for the benefit of Greek society. He said the upcoming election will be judged by the party’s relationship with citizens and its performance, not by the number or composition of parties contesting.

Kikilias stressed that the party’s strategy focuses on the first ballot, rejecting speculation about new party formations and emphasizing the need for a strong, single‑party government. He expressed respect for former Prime Minister Antonis Samaras and declined to comment on any plans for a new party. On foreign and maritime issues, he noted that Greece will keep negotiating to protect its sovereign rights in the sea and Exclusive Economic Zone, and that the Coast Guard continues to combat illegal migration and fishing. He asserted that Greece is prepared for any provocations from Turkey, emphasizing professional conduct and adherence to engagement rules.
