Greek Shipping Minister Vasilis Kikilias urges safety at Piraeus port amid summer travel surge
Minister of Shipping and Island Policy Vasilis Kikilias visited the Piraeus port during the peak of the summer season. He inspected security measures with officials of the Coast Guard and highlighted that about 10.7 million passengers depart from Piraeus each year for the islands.
Kikilias stressed that “safety is above all” and urged travelers to follow the instructions of coast‑guard personnel at all ports. He noted that hundreds of dockworkers are on duty at Piraeus and thousands are deployed across Greece’s ports to ensure smooth and secure operations. The minister warned that ship occupancy is expected to rise to 100 % by the mid‑August peak and asked the public for patience and cooperation. He concluded by wishing everyone a pleasant holiday and calm seas.
