Greek Shipping Minister Vasilis Kiklias: ferry tickets stay stable, discounts up to 50%

Greek Shipping Minister Vasilis Kiklias said the government has kept ferry ticket prices unchanged for a second consecutive year despite pressures from the war‑driven energy crisis. By leveraging competition among operators, discounts of 25‑42% – and in some cases up to 50% – have been offered on high‑speed and conventional vessels, benefiting families, groups and motorists.

Kiklias also highlighted more than 1,800 emergency safety inspections carried out on ferries and announced the recruitment of 500 new marine‑guard personnel through ASEP to fill staffing gaps in the Coast Guard. Ticket prices remain market‑driven and are overseen by the Competition Commission, while intense rivalry on routes such as Raphina has driven fares down to as low as one euro for a car.
