Greek minister Vasilis Kikilias says reforms and work will decide upcoming election

Minister of Shipping and Island Policy Vasilis Kikilias told the Open TV channel that the New Democracy government’s reforms, investments and infrastructural projects – carried out despite the pandemic, war and energy crises – must be continued and completed for the benefit of Greek society.

He argued that the result of the forthcoming parliamentary election will be judged by the party’s relationship with citizens, not by the number of parties on the ballot. Kikilias stressed that “as long as we are in touch with the people, the number of parties cannot undermine us,” and that the focus should be on the first voting round. He reiterated support for single‑party governments and warned that premature speculation about post‑first‑ballot scenarios would damage the party.

The minister also highlighted the role of the Coast Guard in combating illegal migration and fishing, and affirmed Greece’s readiness to defend its sovereignty in the Aegean and Exclusive Economic Zone amid Turkish provocations.
