Greek sports retail market grows 16.3% to €344.6 million
The organized Greek sports retail market experienced significant growth between January and August 2026, with sales value reaching €344.6 million. This represents a 16.3% increase compared to the €296.4 million recorded during the same period in 2025.
Key performance indicators show a robust upward trend: sales volume in units rose by 33.8% (from 8.3 million to 11.1 million units), and the number of orders increased by 10.5%. This simultaneous growth across value, volume, and orders suggests active consumer demand.
Footwear remains the largest market segment, accounting for approximately 51% of turnover (€175 million). Clothing follows at 37.4% (€129 million), while accessories and equipment grew the fastest at 23.3%. The market is heavily influenced by the ‘athleisure’ trend, where athletic fashion is used for daily wear rather than strictly for sports.
Data was compiled through a new collaborative initiative between the three largest retailers in the sector—Cosmos Sport / JD Sports, Sportswear Market (Fourlis Group), and Zakcret—and analyzed by Convert Group via the eRetail Audit platform. April and July were identified as the strongest months for sales.
