Greek sportswear market grows as major players consolidate

The Greek sportswear market is experiencing significant growth, with sales value reaching 344.6 million euros between January and August 2026, a 16.3% increase compared to the same period in 2025. Sales volume in units also rose by 33.8%, climbing from 8.3 million to 11.1 million units.

Market competition is consolidating around three major players: the Cosmos Sport / JD Sports group, the Sportswear Market – Fourlis Group (which operates INTERSPORT and Foot Locker), and Zakcret (Zakcret Sports and Sneaker Cage). These three entities are estimated to represent approximately half of the total market.

Strategic shifts are underway as JD Sports Group has taken full control of Cosmos Sport following the acquisition of the remaining 20% stake. Additionally, Cosmos Sport is awaiting a decision from the Competition Commission regarding its proposed acquisition of Sport Vision from BDSSPORT GROUP LTD.

Consumer trends show a rise in the ‘athleisure’ segment, where athletic fashion for daily use is outpacing products intended strictly for sports. The average consumer spend per order has increased to 65.9 euros, with footwear accounting for 51% of turnover and clothing representing 37.4%.
