Greek stock index hits record as US investors eye CPI and bank earnings

The Athens Stock Exchange benchmark surged to a 17‑year high above 2,500 points, driven by upgrades of earnings forecasts, optimistic outlooks for the second half of the year and strong inflows from foreign investors, especially into banks, energy and construction firms. The General Index closed the week ending 7 July up 3.34% at 2,541.99, with a weekly turnover of €1.56 billion.

Meanwhile, investors in the United States are preparing for a key week of economic data and corporate results. The Consumer Price Index for June and earnings reports from major banks such as JPMorgan Chase, Bank of America, Citigroup, Wells Fargo and Goldman Sachs are expected to shape expectations for Federal Reserve policy and market risk appetite. Attention is also on AI spending, transportation firm J.B. Hunt, streaming service Netflix and airline United, alongside health‑care earnings from Johnson & Johnson.
