Greek banks fuel stock market surge as Aktor shares tumble
Greek equities rebounded strongly on the trading day, with the bank index jumping 4.29 % and the Athens General Index climbing 2.08 % back above the 2,500‑point level. Eurobank, Alpha Bank and Piraeus Bank closed near the session high, while National Bank of Greece edged slightly lower. The rally was bolstered by positive assessments from major international investors such as Morgan Stanley, Goldman Sachs and HSBC.
At the same time, Aktor’s share price fell about 10 % to €11.72 after the company announced a new price range of €11.25‑€12, triggering heavy sell orders. Meanwhile, ElvalHalcor began trading 59.52 million new shares, and Jumbo announced its dividend payout. Motor Oil completed the acquisition of a 30 % stake in the Nova ICT venture.
Analysts note that the European Central Bank is set to meet tomorrow, with expectations of a cautious monetary stance and possible rate hikes beginning in September 2027, driven by rising oil prices and Middle‑East supply concerns. Energy price pressures and global market sentiment continue to influence Greek investors.
