Greek Summer Musical Theatre Line‑up Features Eight New Productions

A series of eight musical‑theatre productions will run across Greece during July and August, offering audiences a blend of comedy, biography and classic adaptations.

The season opens with the comedy‑musical “No More Coal” by Repas‑Papathanasiou at the Municipal Amphitheatre of Papagos, directed by its creators and starring Antonis Loudaros, Giorgos Charniotis and Mathilde Manggi. The biographical show “Alexis Came Out of Paradise,” debuting 8 July at the Greek World Cultural Center, dramatizes the songs and life of legendary singer Sakellaris with Alexander Bourdoumi as Sakellaris.

Other highlights include “Manolis – Heart on Four Strings,” a musical portrait of pioneering composer Manolis Chios, staged at the same cultural center, and the second Repas‑Papathanasiou musical “Across from the Boy,” presented at the DEH Forest Theatre.

Traditional fare arrives with “Nikos Xylouris – Archangel of Crete” at the Ancient Theatre of Dion and later at the Nikos Kazantzakis Garden Theatre in Heraklion, while “Two Voices for Maria” commemorates poet Maria Polydouri at the Drakopoulou Park. Additional productions such as “Romeo and Juliet” by Boast and the comic opera “Lysistrata” round out the summer program.
