Greek supermarkets expand ready-to-eat and children's meal sectors

Major Greek supermarket chains are expanding their competition in the ready-to-eat meal sector, specifically targeting the children's meal market.

Sklavenitis currently offers 44 ready-meal products, with sales exceeding 60 million euros. The company has recently introduced a dedicated category of children's meals featuring six options in smaller portions. Additionally, the group is developing its ‘Sklavenitis Food to Go’ concept, which includes approximately 300 items. A new production unit in Magoula is being planned with an investment of roughly 100 million euros, capable of producing up to 250,000 meals per day.

AB Vassilopoulos is also moving into this space, planning to launch children's meals by 2027. These products will be developed in collaboration with Akis Petretzikis and will feature smaller portions designed for school or home use. Currently, AB Vassilopoulos offers 50 ready-meal products produced by partners under Petretzikis' supervision and operates sushi bars in 14 locations.
