Greek ready-to-eat meal market growth
Overview
The ready-to-eat meal market in Greece has grown into a significant retail sector, reaching a turnover of 1 billion euros. Research by IELKA indicates that the percentage of consumers purchasing these meals from supermarkets is projected to reach 29% in 2026, nearly doubling since 2016.
In response to this growth, major supermarket chains are expanding their offerings and infrastructure. Sklavenitis is developing its ‘Sklavenitis Food to Go’ concept and planning a 100 million euro production unit in Magoula capable of producing 250,000 meals daily. The company has also introduced a dedicated category of children’s meals. Similarly, AB Vassilopoulos is planning to launch children’s meals by 2027 in collaboration with Akis Petretzikis, building upon its existing range of 50 ready-meal products and its sushi bar locations.
