Greek swimmer Vangelis Doumas wins 100m freestyle gold at European Junior Championships

Eighteen‑year‑old Vangelis Doumas of Olympiacos captured the gold medal in the 100‑metre freestyle at the European Junior Swimming Championships in Munich, finishing in 59.91 seconds. He edged out Germany’s Louis Hofmann (1:00.29) and Britain’s Max Morgan (1:00.41) to claim his second European title, having also won the event in 2024.

Doumas set a Greek national record of 59.77 seconds at the 2025 World Junior Championships, a mark that still stands across three senior age categories. At the Munich meet he added a silver in the 200‑metre freestyle and helped Greece secure a place in the 4 × 100‑metre mixed relay, bringing his total medal haul at the championships to five. Fellow Greek swimmer Nikos Papatheodorou finished sixth in the 100‑metre backstroke final.

The victory marks the 67th European swimming medal for Greece and underscores the country’s growing presence in junior international swimming.
