Greek tax authority AADE launches digital sweep of 12,000 taxpayers
The Independent Authority for Public Revenue (AADE) has opened a new round of tax audits after the filing deadline, targeting roughly 12,000 Greek taxpayers who declared annual incomes of €10,000‑€20,000 but show consumption levels that far exceed those earnings. The authority is using advanced digital algorithms and the BANCAPP information system to cross‑check bank account data, loan repayments, insurance contracts, school fees, utility bills and other transaction codes with the figures reported on tax returns.
Taxpayers identified by the sweep will receive an electronic notice – often called a “ravasaki” – asking them to explain the discrepancies within 15 days. Failure to provide satisfactory justification can lead to additional tax assessments, surcharges and fines that may reach up to 50 % of the tax shortfall. The operation is part of AADE’s effort to complete pending cases before the 2026 statute‑of‑limitations deadline and to recover revenue from undeclared income and unjustified asset growth.
