Greek theater festivals debut two new productions in Athens and Kalamata

The 5th Pentelic Mountain Festival will present "Sparagmos," a stage adaptation merging Euripides' "Bacchae" with Margarita Lymperaki's work, at the Megaro Doukisis Plakentias in Athens on July 11‑12, 2026. The production is directed by Nikos Maneles and features a cast that explores themes of mourning, transformation, and the cycles of nature.

The Experimental Stage of Kalamata will stage "The King Gorgondkan," a translation of Rantovan Ivsik's play by Vasilis Nikolaidis, adapted and directed by Panagiotis Adam, with music by Giorgos Kouroupou. Running from July 6‑9, 2026, the drama condemns violence and abuse of power, drawing parallels between historic war and contemporary conflicts.
