Greek theatre features diverse premieres and immersive experiences
Several notable theatre premieres are scheduled this week in Greece, offering diverse experiences ranging from literary adaptations to immersive sensory performances.
At the Karolos Koun Art Theatre, a production of Azar Nafisi’s ‘Reading Lolita in Tehran’ will debut. Directed by Maria Xanthopoulou, the play follows a literature professor and her students in Tehran during the Islamic Revolution, portraying their secret literary meetings as acts of resistance.
The Olympia Theatre will host two performances of the legendary wartime revue ‘Bravo Colonel’ on October 19 and 20. Featuring the ERT Modern Music Orchestra and directed by Alexandros Euklidis, the production uses music and satire to depict Greek society’s response to fascism during the Greco-Italian War.
At the Argo Theatre, ‘The Darkness’ offers an immersive experience based on Maurice Maeterlinck’s ‘The Blind’. In this production, audience members must place all light-emitting devices, such as smartphones and smartwatches, into envelopes to experience the play in total darkness, relying on sound, touch, and imagination.
Additionally, Thanassis Dovris’s ‘DARFSTELER’, based on a novella by Miller, returns to the Rectifie Theatre following its success with the Fabrica Athens team.
