Greek Traffic Police Switch to Digital Violation System with Tablets
The Traffic Police of Attica have begun replacing the traditional pink paper tickets with a fully digital system. 390–400 tablets and smartphones, donated by Motor Oil and Nova, allow officers to record violations instantly, verify insurance, technical inspection (KTEO) and driver licence status in real time, and issue electronic notices via the e‑Queue, SMS or email.
The new platform also enables immediate digital suspension of licences and online payment or appeal, eliminating the need for drivers to visit police offices or municipal cash desks. Minister for Citizen Protection Mihalis Chrysochoidis said the move makes the service “more transparent, faster and more reliable” and aims to boost road safety, noting that traffic deaths fell by about 150 in 2025. The reform is part of a broader effort to modernise the police and enforce a stricter road‑traffic code.
Overall, the digital overhaul is expected to cut bureaucratic errors, speed up enforcement, and improve public confidence in traffic policing.
