Green Day-backed comedy 'Nimrods' opens in theaters Aug. 14

The punk‑rock trio Green Day has helped develop the coming‑of‑age comedy film NIMRODS, which will open in U.S. theaters on August 14. Written and directed by Lee Kirk, the story follows three friends—Mason Thames, Kylr Coffman and Ryan Foust—who travel to Los Angeles believing their band will open for Green Day on New Year's Eve. The cast also includes Jenna Fischer, Angela Kinsey, McKenna Grace, Fred Armisen, Bobby Lee and Sean Gunn.

Inaugural Entertainment acquired the film from Live Nation Studios and partnered with Legion M, the world’s first fan‑owned entertainment company, to finance its marketing and distribution. Legion M’s film fund reached its $1 million cap after launching with NIMRODS. Legion M co‑founders Jeff Annison and Paul Scanlan said, “We LOVED this movie the moment we saw it at TIFF,” adding that “Green Day wouldn’t exist without the fans, and we’re excited to give those fans the opportunity to own a stake in the film.” Kevin Weisberg, CEO of Inaugural Entertainment, called the film “the kind of experience audiences will want to share together in a theater.”

The film, previously titled “New Years Rev,” premiered at the 2025 Toronto International Film Festival before being renamed to match Green Day’s 1997 double‑platinum album.
