Green Day‑backed Nimrods film rollout

Entities: Billie Joe Armstrong · Lee Kirk · Mason Thames · Green Day · Mike Dirnt

Overview

Green Day’s involvement in the teen road‑trip comedy Nimrods has continued to expand. After debuting as “New Year’s Rev” at the Toronto International Film Festival in September 2025, the film opened globally in a limited‑run cinema event on 11 August 2026, with more than 700 theatres in 39 countries, followed by a wider U.S. release on 14 August. The rollout also included earlier openings in the United Kingdom on 11 August and in Italy from 11‑18 August. The 30‑track soundtrack, issued on 31 July, features 22 Green Day hits, the new single “I’m Never Gonna R.I.P.”, four previously unreleased live recordings from a Hollywood Palladium show, and contributions from The Paradox, Ultra Q, McKenna Grace and the fictional Analog Dogs. The cast includes Mason Thames, Jenna Fischer, McKenna Grace, Angela Kinsey, Sean Gunn, Bobby Lee and new additions Kylr Coffman, Ryan Foust and Fred Armisen. Director Lee Kirk co‑wrote the script with the band, which also serves as executive producer alongside Tim Perell. Executive producers remain Billie Joe Armstrong, Mike Dirnt and Tré Cool. Green Day promoted the film at San Diego Comic‑Con, handing out ice‑cream‑truck‑served desserts, T‑shirts and cassette tapes. Following the trailer debut in June, the film’s marketing is backed by fan‑owned platform Legion M and Inaugural Entertainment, which acquired the project from Live Nation Studios. Legion M’s film fund hit its $1 million cap with Nimrods, letting fans own a stake; co‑founders Jeff Annison and Paul Scanlan praised the movie’s alignment with Green Day’s fan‑centric roots. Process Media joins as a production partner. The picture will be shown in 4K during a two‑day global event on 11 August, covering over 700 theatres in 39 countries, with tickets on sale from 14 July.
