Green Day film 'Nimrods' to debut in limited global cinema run
The Green Day‑inspired comedy‑adventure "Nimrods" (styled NIMRODS) will be shown in a two‑day special cinema event on August 11, with screenings in more than 700 theatres across 39 countries. A wider U.S. release follows on August 14. Tickets went on sale July 14, and the film’s soundtrack, released July 31, features a new Green Day track “I’m Never Gonna R.I.P.” alongside 22 classic songs and live recordings.
The movie follows teenager Tommy (Mason Thames) on a cross‑country road trip after a prank convinces him his band will open for Green Day on New Year’s Eve. Executive producers include Green Day members Billie Joe Armstrong, Mike Dirnt and Tré Cool. The cast also features McKenna Grace, Jenna Fischer, Angela Kinsey, Sean Gunn, Bobby Lee and others. The project is presented as a tribute to the band’s early DIY touring spirit.
