Green Man Festival cancels traditional effigy burning due to fire risk

Organisers of the annual Green Man Festival have cancelled the traditional ‘burning of the Green Man’ ritual due to extremely high fire risks and government advice. The ritual, which involves setting fire to a massive wooden effigy filled with festivalgoers' wishes and spells, will be replaced by an alternative ‘special send off’ to ensure safety at the Glanusk Estate.

In response to the dry ground conditions and a nationwide mobile alert warning against lighting fires, the festival has implemented several safety measures. These include a complete ban on campfires and disposable barbecues, as well as a ban on smoking and vaping inside all tents and bar areas. To assist with hydration and heat, organisers are providing more water points and additional covered shelter areas for attendees.
