Green Man Festival fire safety measures

Overview

Due to extreme fire risks and dry ground conditions, organizers of the Green Man Festival at Glanusk Estate cancelled the traditional ‘burning of the Green Man’ ritual. The ritual, which involves burning a large wooden effigy, was replaced by a ‘special send off’ to comply with government advice and nationwide mobile alerts against lighting fires.

To manage safety, the festival implemented bans on campfires, disposable barbecues, and smoking or vaping inside tents and bar areas, while increasing water points and shaded shelters. Following a summer of intense wildfire activity in Wales, including incidents in Rhinogydd and Rhandirmwyn, organizers also donated 80 festival tokens to the Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service as a gesture of gratitude for their response to recent major fires.
