Green Transformation program launched in Poland with 188 million euro EEA funding

The Green Transformation program, funded by the EEA Financial Mechanism, has been officially launched to support ecological transitions in Poland. The program provides approximately 188 million euros to address four key areas: climate, energy, nature protection, and the circular economy.

Of this total, over 160 million euros comes directly from EEA grants, supplemented by 28 million euros from the Polish state budget. The Ministry of Climate and Environment serves as the program operator, with the National Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management (NFOŚiGW) responsible for implementation. The initiative aims to build a more resilient society by reducing emissions, improving energy efficiency, and promoting renewable energy sources.

Representatives from Norway and Iceland participated in the inauguration, emphasizing that the program is built on international cooperation, innovation, and knowledge sharing. The first calls for proposals are expected to begin in the fourth quarter of 2026, targeting various beneficiaries including local governments, public institutions, NGOs, and businesses.

In local applications of environmental funding, Ustroń has completed investments worth over 500,000 PLN. Supported by the Provincial Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management in Katowice, these projects include a new green recreational space in Hermanicach and the establishment of three ecological classrooms in local schools to enhance environmental education.
