The company, which is linked to allies of Donald Trump, reportedly transported an excavator and approximately 15 containers to the eastern coast of Greenland in late July.

While the company stated the equipment was a preparatory step for exploration in the Jameson Land Basin, the Greenlandic government noted that the project lacks the necessary permits. Officials expressed concerns regarding the environmental and social impacts on protected wetland areas. Consequently, the drilling timeline has been pushed back, with authorities now targeting winter 2027 at the earliest for potential permitting.

The incident has heightened geopolitical tensions, as Greenland Energy's activities coincide with renewed interest in the territory by U.S. political figures. Greenland Energy estimates the region could hold up to $1 trillion in crude oil, though the territory has maintained a moratorium on new oil and gas licenses since 2021.
