Greenland Energy lands drilling equipment without local authorization

Texas-based Greenland Energy has reportedly landed several containers of drilling equipment on the east coast of Greenland without authorization from local authorities. The equipment was offloaded at Konstabel Pynt on the Jameson Land peninsula, an area that includes wetlands protected by the international Ramsar Convention.

The Greenlandic government issued a "strong warning" through its Ministry of Industry, stating that no approval has been granted for the landing of the equipment and that all future logistics must be cleared by authorities. Local residents have held demonstrations against the American-led plans.

Greenland Energy's chairman, Larry Swets, is associated with Donald Trump's inner circle. While Swets stated the project is "not related to an American annexation," the company claims the Jameson Land region could hold crude oil valued at $1 trillion. The company plans to invest approximately $60 million in exploratory drilling.
