Greenland government warns Trump-linked oil firm over unauthorized drilling

Greenland's semi‑autonomous government issued a strong warning to Texas‑based Greenland Energy, a company with ties to former U.S. President Donald Trump, after the firm brought drilling equipment to the eastern coast of Jameson Land without securing the required permit from the mineral resources authority. The government stressed that any future logistical activity must be approved in advance.

Greenland Energy plans to spend about $60 million to drill two exploratory wells, claiming the area could hold up to $1 trillion worth of crude oil. Although Greenland halted new oil licences in 2021 for environmental reasons, a British firm, 80 Mile, holds existing exploration rights in the region. The company has hired former talk‑show host Dr. Phil (Phil McGraw) to produce a documentary and appointed a U.S. Navy veteran involved in the “Golden Dome” missile‑defence plan to its board. Two days after the warning, Trump posted a provocative image on Truth Social, reiterating his rhetoric about U.S. control of the Arctic.
