Grimaldi Group announces $1.5 billion fleet renewal and Greek port investments

Grimaldi Group CEO Emanuele Grimaldi has announced a major investment cycle focused on fleet renewal and port infrastructure, including a $1.5 billion order for nine new Ro-Pax vessels. These ships, scheduled for delivery between 2028 and 2030, will be distributed across the Mediterranean and the Baltic Sea.

In Greece, the group will focus its capital on the ports of Igoumenitsa and Heraklion, where it holds a 67% stake. Planned upgrades for Igoumenitsa include improved operational systems, parking and entrance enhancements, new lighting, and the installation of photovoltaic systems. A key priority is the energy transition, specifically implementing shore-to-ship power infrastructure to allow vessels to reduce engine use while docked, thereby lowering fuel consumption, noise, and emissions.

Regarding the new fleet, four of the nine vessels are directly linked to the Greek market: two will serve Adriatic lines to strengthen the Greece–Italy connection, and two will join Minoan Lines to serve the Piraeus–Milos–Heraklion route.
