Overview

The Grimaldi Group has initiated significant expansions in its fleet and infrastructure, with a focus on sustainability and energy transition.

On September 22, the group took delivery of the Grande Egitto, a new Pure Car & Truck Carrier built by China Merchants Heavy Industries Jiangsu. The vessel is an ‘Ammonia Ready’ unit designed for future conversion to zero-carbon fuel and features eco-friendly technologies such as solar panels and a lithium battery system to reduce fuel consumption.

Following this, on September 25, CEO Emanuele Grimaldi announced a $1.5 billion investment cycle. This includes orders for nine new Ro-Pax vessels for the Mediterranean and Baltic Sea, scheduled for delivery between 2028 and 2030. The investment also targets Greek port infrastructure in Igoumenitsa and Heraklion, prioritizing upgrades such as photovoltaic systems and shore-to-ship power to lower emissions while vessels are docked.
