Grimaldi Group unveils vertical car park and solar plant in Barcelona

The Grimaldi Group has unveiled a new vertical vehicle parking facility and a photovoltaic plant at the Grimaldi Terminal Barcelona. The new car silo, which is expected to enter service in November 2026, will occupy a footprint of approximately 7,500 m² and consist of a ground floor plus four additional levels, totaling roughly 37,500 m². This vertical configuration is designed to maximize limited port space and improve the organization of vehicles during reception, storage, and distribution.

The facility will feature a direct connection to the Costa quay rail terminal to streamline the processing of vehicles arriving by train. Additionally, the terminal has implemented a solar energy project with an installed capacity of 1,238 kWp and an estimated annual production of 1,695 MWh, which is intended to cover the terminal’s annual energy consumption. A 1.3 MWh battery system has also been installed to support this renewable energy initiative.

Since receiving its concession in 2012, the Grimaldi Group has invested approximately €45 million in the terminal. An additional €5 million is currently being allocated to modernize access routes, automate entry and exit gates, and upgrade infrastructure and paving.
