Grobogan drought affects 108 villages with severe water shortages

A severe drought in Grobogan Regency, Central Java, has left 108 villages facing a critical shortage of clean water as the second peak of the dry season arrives in August and September 2026.

Residents in areas such as Dukuh Kemiri report that traditional 15-meter wells have dried up or are producing unusable, salty, and yellowish water. To meet basic needs, many families must purchase bottled water or pay between Rp120,000 and Rp130,000 per water tank to sustain household needs for one to two weeks.

The Grobogan Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) reported that the drought has persisted since May 2026. As of late September, the agency has distributed 617 water tanks, totaling approximately 3.1 million liters of clean water. Support for distribution has also been provided by the Central Java Regional Police (Polda Jawa Tengah) and various social organizations including Baznas and Jasa Tirta.
