Groningen adjusts waste collection and terrace hours for heat

In Groningen, local authorities have implemented several adjustments due to expected high temperatures. Waste collection services will begin earlier on Friday, August 14, with residents requested to place containers by 6:00 AM. Additionally, waste disposal stations at Duinkerkenstraat, Electronstraat, and the Haren district post will close earlier, operating only between 8:00 AM and 12:00 PM.

Under the Tropical Weather Scenario (TWS), hospitality venues in the city center are permitted to extend their terrace hours until 3:00 AM. Outside the center, terraces may remain open until 2:00 AM, while waterfront terraces are permitted until midnight. These measures allow businesses, including those without specific terrace permits, to set up outdoor seating provided pedestrian access is not obstructed.
