Grosseto Province expands youth role in Equality Commission amid Roselle sports centre guarantee dispute

The Province of Grosseto has revised its Equality Commission regulations to allow participation from young people as young as 16, including a student representative with voting rights. The new rules, approved by the provincial council, aim to broaden civil society involvement and assess candidates on motivation, civic engagement and personal experience rather than prior professional background.

At the same time, the Grosseto municipal administration is facing a political controversy over an irregular guarantee (fideiussione) linked to the Roselle sports centre project. Opposition councilors questioned why the municipality signed a mediation protocol before verifying the guarantee’s validity. The municipality set a deadline of 12 August to present a new, valid guarantee after a draft from an unqualified company was rejected. The dispute has intensified scrutiny of the agreement between the city and the sports society.
