Grover Norquist criticizes Australia’s big tech tax

Representing Americans for Tax Reform, Norquist characterized the policy as a “shakedown” and a “new way to tax American success.”

The incentive aims to redirect funds from major technology companies to the local media ecosystem to support journalism. Norquist argues that tech and media companies should be allowed to negotiate freely without government intervention. However, critics note that tech giants like Meta have previously avoided voluntary negotiations or withdrawn news services to circumvent similar regulations.
