Grupo Bimbo posts North America growth, pursues Spanish waffle maker deal
Grupo Bimbo reported a second consecutive quarter of currency‑neutral sales growth in North America for Q2 2026. Net sales in the region rose 1.3% excluding foreign‑exchange effects, while operating income increased 27.5% to about €103 million and the operating margin improved to 4.6%. The company credited market‑share gains across categories, a stronger product mix, productivity benefits from its transformation program and even some consumption lift linked to the FIFA World Cup.
Separately, the bakery group is in advanced talks to acquire Punto Gofre, a Spanish waffle producer founded in 1978 and a key supplier to retailer Mercadona. The proposed deal would strengthen Bimbo’s European presence and could be finalized in the second half of 2026. No official comment has been made by Bimbo, which previously expanded in Spain by buying two factories in Valencia and Valladolid. Europe’s division contributed net sales of 13.188 billion pesos in the latest quarter.
