Grupo Boticário study finds quinoa bioester can reverse skin aging by up to 16 years
A clinical trial conducted by the Women's Research Center of Grupo Boticário in partnership with Fiocruz and published in Communications Biology tested a quinoa‑derived bioester on 61 healthy women aged 20 to 80. Over a 30‑day period participants applied the ingredient daily, and non‑invasive skin samples were analysed with mass spectrometry and artificial‑intelligence models. The results showed molecular changes consistent with a rejuvenation effect equivalent to up to 16 years of skin aging, with the strongest impact observed in women over 50.
The findings have been linked to broader advice for mature skin, encouraging women past 50 to simplify their routines: gentle, sulfate‑free cleansers, moisturisers containing niacinamide, ceramides or hyaluronic acid, and daily broad‑spectrum sunscreen. Experts suggest avoiding harsh exfoliants and overly aggressive products to preserve the skin barrier and maintain hydration.
