Grupo Veraz to invest USD 5.5 million in Puerto Deseado fishery waste plant
Grupo Veraz has announced a USD 5.5 million investment to establish an industrial plant in Puerto Deseado, Santa Cruz, dedicated to transforming fishery waste into high-value products. The facility will be located at the Pespasa site within the local Industrial District.
The plant is designed to process up to 100 tons of material daily, including hake heads, tails, spines, and viscera, as well as shrimp heads and shells. It aims to utilize approximately 6,500 tons of annual waste from Pespasa and an additional 9,000 tons from other local fishing firms. This project addresses the logistical challenge of transporting waste to facilities located over 800 kilometers away.
The processed materials will be converted into premium fishmeal, high-purity fish oil, and hydrolyzed concentrate, which is used in pet food and as an agricultural biostimulant. The initiative is expected to create 70 direct jobs and support both national supply and international exports.
