Argentine fishing industry industrial investments
Overview
The Argentine fishing sector is seeing significant industrial investment aimed at increasing local production capacity and value-added processing.
In Santa Cruz, Grupo Veraz announced a USD 5.5 million investment to establish a plant in Puerto Deseado. The facility is designed to process up to 100 tons of fishery waste daily—including hake and shrimp remains—to produce premium fishmeal, high-purity fish oil, and hydrolyzed concentrate for pet food and agriculture. This project is expected to create 70 direct jobs.
In Chubut, the company Achernar, part of the Iceland Seafood group, confirmed a $6.5 million investment for Puerto Madryn. Announced following the Conxemar 2026 trade fair, this project will establish a production line for value-added products, such as shrimp, hake, squid, and anchovy, which are currently processed in Peru.
