Água Boa aircraft crash investigation targets suspected drug trafficking

Investigations are underway in Água Boa, Brazil, regarding a Cessna 402 aircraft crash that occurred on September 10, which resulted in the deaths of one Brazilian and two Paraguayan nationals. Civil Police are investigating whether the aircraft was being used for international drug trafficking.

The aircraft, which had been previously seized in a criminal case and sold at a public auction, was reportedly operated without proper Brazilian registration, airworthiness certification, or an approved flight plan. Investigators believe the plane departed from Goiânia without authorization, with a suspected flight path toward neighboring countries, potentially Venezuela.

The victims' bodies have been transported to Cuiabá for forensic examination by the Official Forensic and Technical Identification (Politec) service. While police have identified the likely identities of the occupants through security footage and family contact, official identification remains pending the results of genetic testing and forensic procedures.
