Guaíba River rises above 2 meters in Porto Alegre

The Guaíba River has begun rising in Porto Alegre, surpassing the 2-meter mark at the Historic Center. Monitoring stations at Cais Central and Cais C6 recorded levels between 2.02 and 2.07 meters, with a continuing upward trend.

The rise is primarily driven by the discharge from the Taquari and Caí rivers following heavy rainfall in their respective basins. While the river level showed a slight recession to 1.94 meters in some areas during the morning, the hydrological alert remains in effect until Friday.

In the Ilha da Pintada archipelago, the water reached 2.02 meters during the early hours of Wednesday, causing flooding in low-lying areas such as Rua Nossa Senhora. The Porto Alegre City Hall has established a Command Post in the region to support residents. Although flooding has occurred, the Civil Defense stated there are currently no plans for family evacuations.
