Guadalajara launches flood‑prevention campaign

The municipal government of Guadalajara has started a preventive campaign called “Menos lluvia, menos inundaciones” to reduce flood risk during the rainy season. Officials urge residents not to discard trash on streets, sidewalks or in drains, noting that debris blocks the city’s hydraulic system and aggravates flooding.

The campaign highlights recent clean‑up efforts: roughly 80 tonnes of waste were cleared from the El Dean regulator and the Washington and 8 de Julio underpasses, and an additional 120 tonnes were removed from the Hacienda Ciénega de Mata canal. Authorities also advise citizens to avoid crossing flooded streams, staying away from underpasses during heavy rain, and not seeking shelter under trees because of falling branches or electric hazards.

Residents can use the “Guadalajara App” for real‑time alerts about garbage‑truck routes, supporting coordinated waste disposal and safer road conditions.
