Guadalajara residents protest neighborhood neglect

Residents of the Casas del Rey and Sindicatos neighborhoods in Guadalajara held a protest during a municipal plenary session to denounce years of urban deterioration. Approximately eight residents gathered at the Los Valles Social Center to demand urgent government action regarding cleaning, accessibility, paving, sewage, and the maintenance of common areas.

Spokesperson Margarita Casas stated that the neighborhoods are currently “abandoned,” urging the City Council to prioritize existing maintenance needs over new large-scale projects. Specific grievances include broken tiles, lack of handrails, poor accessibility for people with reduced mobility, and deteriorating sports facilities.

Additionally, residents reported issues with the sewage system, linking poor drainage to the presence of pests such as rats and cockroaches. They also called for more frequent cleaning of interior spaces and walkways, noting a decline in sanitation services.
